Current Research Interests

  • Welcome to MicroFluidics & NanoMechatronics Laboratory (µFNM Lab) in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). The long term research goal is to create novel micro-/nanofluidic technologies that develop a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research fields. Currently, µFNM Lab focuses on the following research areas:

  • Soft/Hard Micro-/Nanofluidics

    • Nanoscale Transport Phenomena

    • Lab-on-chip, Sensors, HTS, etc

  • Unconventional Nanofabrication

    • Crack-lithography for Nanochannels

    • Fluid Patterning for Material Forming

    • Winkle-lithography for Multiscale Molds

  • Bio-mimetics

    • Structure Colors for Anti-counterfeiting

    • Artificial Gill for Underwater Apps

  • NanoMechatronics

    • Nanoscopic Control & Measurement

For the past decade (2009 - 2020)

Research Fields We Have Intensively Focused on in the Past

  • Our group has focused on the following research fields in the past from 2009 to 2020:

    • Microfabricated chemical/electrical/mechanical interface systems for synthetic biology.

    • Cellular BioMEMS for cell culture, sorting, patterning and cancer cell metastasis including the study of embryo development.

    • Micro‐/nanofluidics for (bio-)molecule detection, separation and concentration.

    • Biophysical studies and mechanistic modelings of the responses of cells and proteins to mechanical and electrical disturbances.

    • Applications of microfluidic technologies to quantifying the properties of biomolecules (e.g., DNA, proteins, cells, etc).

    • Nanotechnological applications of biomolecular motors and microtubules systems for stand‐alone, self‐contained and efficient micro Total Analysis Systems (μTAS).
